Family!

Yesterday I finally responded to an inquiry through Ancestry.com. I was waiting to find my binder with my information on my ancestors, which had ended up behind some extra computer cords and such.

I find it amazing, by the way, just how many computer/monitor/accessory cords we've acquired through the years. Crazy. They're now all up in a box, out of the way.

Anyhow, I knew we had distant cousins in Canada, and as it turns out, Gordon is one of them. So I've been emailing back and forth with him, hopefully filling in a few gaps. Unfortunately, we're both lacking information on the person he originally inquired about (Raphael Cloberdanz). Rats.

I am happy, though, that Ancestry.com continues to forward such inquiries, even if your account with them is inactive. I've enjoyed the emails, and have only crashed Thunderbird three times (Hint: If the attachments make the email too big for the recipient, and you get that lovely mailer daemon notice, it's probably going to be a BAD idea to try to reopen the email in the sent folder, even if just to try to delete it. Bad, bad, bad. And don't try it again thinking that the first time was a fluke. It wasn't.).

Anyways! It's been very enjoyable corresponding with him - I hope at least some of the information is useful to him!

And now, I think I'm going to find something to entertain the kiddos, because Calla is LICKING MY ARM, and Patrick is climbing exercise equipment...

New look

The brown was driving me batty, and although I liked the style, I couldn't change the background color itself. So! New template, thus, new look.

Maybe someday I'll move to one of those fancy ones where you can do a whole lotta customization, but those cost money, and I'm just not thinking I need to do that yet.

Wow.

All I can say. I'm not sure if the thing is even appealing to me, but...man. Think of someone viewing a turducken and saying to themselves, "Nah, doesn't have enough in it..."

Go see.

Happy St. Valentine's Day!

We're spending it clearing brush in the backyard, while the kiddos play in the bounce house.

Hey, works for us. :D

Happy Valentine's Day, y'all!

Husband's cousin's son.

See the story here. Prayers/thoughts/well-wishes very much desired for them. Thomas is the same age as Calla - within a month - and it's heartbreaking to know what he should be like at this age vs. where he is.

Ticked.

On Friday, I had just finished whatever it was I was doing (I forget now!), and noticed the time was nearly 5:00. I decided to sit with the kiddos and watch the Electric Company, which our PBS affiliate just started showing on Fridays at 5. The promos in January showed clips of the old Electric Company, so of course, like any reasonable person, I assumed that meant they were showing the old Electric Company episodes.

I was upset, then, to see that this was a new re-done EC, not the old episodes. :( Why didn't they say in the promos that it would be new episodes?

Grrr.

The Last Column

Some of you may have heard about the unexpected death of Michael Dubruiel, who was a regular columnist for his Diocesan newspaper. He wrote this, his last column, on a Monday, the day before he died while working out at the gym.

Go read.

An "Oh, crud..." type of feeling...

...is being out shopping some 30 minutes or so from home, presenting your ID to purchase a bottle of wine, and realizing as you look at the ID that it expired a couple of weeks ago.

Oops.

Man, that'll make you paranoid driving home. It's renewed now, though (cripe, is online renewal nice - by the time I have to renew again, and must go in person, the kiddos will be a bit more able to handle it), and I have my little receipt thinger to prove it. Yay!

Thanks, kiddo!

Patrick, upon walking into the straightened-up living room:

"Wow! This room is AWESOME!"

I could not keep from laughing. And of course, said "Thank you".

I dunno what was so awesome, really - nothing different about it. I think he must have suddenly decided that it is to be their playroom or something; my mother-in-law recently redid one of the rooms at their place for that purpose, and it was after seeing that room, with the toys neatly arranged, that he then made the above comment about the living room (which is currently sporting Little People World arcing across one side).

I'll probably be putting everything back into their room this weekend or so, but it's nice to give them the chance to play with things already laid out, instead of their needing to dig out whatever they want to play with from their room (which is admittedly small by the time you put in two dressers, two toddler beds, and various toy holders -- I totally understand needing to get stuff out to where they have some room to play with them).

Received this in an email

And then found it on YouTube.
